The laboratory of Liver Infectious Diseases (LLID) is focusing on basic and translational research on human pathogens that infect the liver. Different cell culture models and a unique humanized mouse model are being used to study hepatitis viruses such as HBV, HCV, HDV and HEV. Our lab is supported by grants of the Special Research Fund of Ghent University, the Research Foundation - Flanders (FWO-Vlaanderen), the Excellence of Science program (EOS-project VirEOS) and VLAIO.
Research topics:
-
Study of the humoral and hepatic innate immune response during hepatitis virus infection.
-
Study of virus-host interactions to identify novel and antiviral targets.
-
Development and evaluation of novel antiviral approaches to prevent or treat hepatitis virus infection.
-
In vivo evaluation of the human-type metabolic profile of medicinal compounds.
